While I'm the kind of guy who will surprise you with wonderful experiences, on a first date, I wouldn't just do something *I* want to do prior to determining FIRST.. what kind of things you like most. And then I would match my arrangement for a first date according to as many of those factors as I could make happen.

I'm open to our first date. I think a movie though is better left for later dates. Our first one we should spend time talking, flirting, laughing, and getting better acquainted to see if we should meet again.Dinner is a good way of meeting, but don't think I'm limited to that.
As for foods, I picked Olive Garden simply because I love their salad! :)

For me, a first date happens after the first meeting which could happen at a coffee bar, restaurant, etc. We have to click to know if a first date is the next step. Now, for that date, I think anything we can mutually agree on.

First impressions are very important. They determine if there is chemistry although i will not go out of my way to impress anyone by the location we chose to meet at, ill ask her to decide. It gives me an understanding of her values. I can enjoy a great dinner as much as a place to sit and drink water or at a hot dog stand.

This is a silly question.... a first date can happen anywhere. It is not the place, it is meeting the other person and hopefully having fun connection. If there is a unique intensity then what I will remember is him and that first moment of "wow".
