Something simple, at a location we both can feel comfortable in with no need to feel committed should things not go well. I believe in getting to know someone first and foremost, seeing how well we match, and by the end, knowing if there is anything more we want from each other (friendship, some sort of more intimate relationship, etc.).

FIRST DATE:
I'm am easy going guy. I think movies, concerts, comedy shows, etc are horrible choices for 1st dates. They can be fun, but in those environments you spend little time getting to know about each other. I think ideal 1st dates are like an hour to hour & a half (for good ones) at a coffee shop, or maybe a game or 2 of pool, putt-putt or bowling. This ads a little fun competitiveness & really allows the other person to see just how they act in that scenario. Believe me, you can see things in people that were hidden before & can rear there ugly head unexpectedly.
I think a first date should really be no longer than 2 hours. Yes, especially if it is going good. Do the meet & greet, learn about each other, interact, go home, process what each have learned & the anticipation of getting together again, would be more intense.

Well the first meeting is hardly a date. It is a you look at me and I look at you and I chat to you and you chat to me and determining what we have in common.... we may just laugh it off... ha ha ha 'get it .. laugh it off... ok seriously It is very much a first impressions count issue. Compatibility and common interests are uncovered. The next step is a Date... whoop whoop ha ha ha I believe a date is a shared experience of something we would both like for example a movie or a dinner or a walk on the beach, or a drink in a restaurant or whatever both like to do. It does not have to be a formal type thing. It is where deeper conversation is undertaken further determine how compatible we are. It has conversation as the medium to unravelling the interests, hobbies likes and dislikes to see if there is a future. Irrespective friendship comes first and any future relationship should be based on a strong friendship platform. Phew...... that was deep... ha ha ha

I think its normally best that a first date consist of of coffee or a drink. However, for me it can be a modest dinner because everyone eats in the evenings anway, and that can help extend the first encounter by an hour or more so that people can take a second or even a third think. This doesnt sound too romantic on my part, but we are really talking about blind dates here.
