Again, I don't think there is a "perfect" first date. It depends on the two of us and what your likes/dislikes are. If I said my first day idea would be to go to my favorite Japanese restaurant and it turns out that you don't like Japanese food then it's not such a great idea for a first date. Is it? ;o)

I am comfortable with you alternative suggestions but prefer dining out followed by long talk to get to know each other. A nice walk would be appropriate. Tea or coffee can add to later evening. First Date ... Ok then I guess you would call me and ask me to go for a walk down at the beach. We would take a pick-nick and watch the boats. We would enjoy each other's company very much and plan to see each other that evening and next day. We make it up as we go and have something special between us. Time passes quickly. You are fun and easy to talk to.

A casual meeting at a mutually acceptable location where both feel comfortable (could be lunch or just coffee). It is a chance for a first face-to-face meeting to evaluate the comfort factor. If a spark occurs, that is fine. If not, there is no harm done and no hard feelings.
If the initial contact starts off well, then we have the options of a walk or just sit and talk together. The most important factor at this stage is to not impose any pre-conceived ideas or expectations_ just to get acquainted, discuss one another's ideas and to determine if we have common ground.
I would hope that we are both seeking more than a 1-time hookup_ something ongoing to some extent.
